Dot NAME Domain Names

Started in 2001, the .NAME universal top-level domain is the sole TLD meant for personal sites only. These domains can include personal or fictional names, aliases and/or other titles people are popular by. At the beginning, solely third-level registrations were possible, so if you planned to purchase john.doe.name, you had to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration process was liberalized and 2nd-level registrations were also permitted. Already registered third-level names remained working.
